Trip to Logos II

In November 2001 we visited the LOGOS II ship whilst it was docked in Belfast harbour. We were treated to a guided tour of this great vessel, and discovered some amazing facts - For example, did you know that the total weight of books on board is the same as a Boeing 747 aircraft?

Please read on to find out about the purpose of the Logos II.

The M.V. LOGOS II promotes international understanding and world-wide education. Through cultural exchange programmes, community service initiatives, and a floating book fair, the LOGOS II experience encourages all who come aboard to expand their horizons and embark on a voyage of discovery.

The LOGOS II has been operated since 1989 by EBE (Educational Books Exhibits, Ltd.), a non-profit, charity organisation registered in the United Kingdom and managed from the company headquarters in Germany. For more than a decade the vessel has undertaken port programmes in Africa, North and South America, the Caribbean, Europe, and the Middle East. Over 6 million visitors have been welcomed on board in more than 60 countries.

The M. V. LOGOS II was built in 1968 and first named Antonio Lázaro. Though originally built as a passenger car ferry, she has been completely refitted for her present role. Today she carries a multinational crew and staff of 200 volunteers whose service is a practical expression of their faith and commitment to serving the nations.
